Central Park Elementary School Kindergarten Class Planted Annual Garden March 9th Thanks to Generous Donation by a Parent

The entire kindergarten class at Central Park Elementary School in Plantation had a chance to show off their green thumbs thanks to the generous donation by Andrew J. Garnett, president/CEO of Special Needs Group® / Special Needs at Sea® (SNG) www.specialneedsgroup.com, the leading global provider of special needs equipment rentals.

Garnett heard the school was not awarded the grant for its annual Kindergarten Class Garden from his son Alec, a Kindergarten student there. When Alec got home, he told his parents, “We have to have a garden. It’s not Kindergarten without a garden.” That’s when Garnett took it up on himself to donate the $500.

With the blessing of intern Principal Susana Deutsch, on March 9 each kindergarten class participated in planting the ingredients that will ultimately make salsa. “Through this hands-on exercise, the students learn about nutrition and healthy eating,” said Deutsch. “The learning that takes place with the Kindergarten Class Garden is priceless.”

“Learning through a book or on a computer is fine, but it is not a replacement for true hands-on experience,” said Garnett. “Through my business, we meet people every day who think their special need or disability precludes them from enjoying life. Once they realize our special needs equipment enables them to explore the world, they let us know how grateful they are that we have made the world a better place for them. It didn’t take much to make this gardening project happen and it’s important so that future classes will also have the opportunity to experience it for themselves.”

In addition to nutrition and healthy eating, the kindergarten classes will also be learning about the following.

  1. Photosynthesis
  2. Life Cycles – Both Plants and Butterflies
  3. How to plant their own garden
  4. How to cook with fresh ingredients
  5. Nutrition
  6. Teamwork
