Blue Heron River Tours

Written by Shaps
Enjoy the breeze on relaxing exploration in the heart of the “Real Florida.”
-review of the attraction (Deland).
Situated about 35 miles away from Orlando and 25 miles away from Daytona, Blue Heron Boat Tours plays host to an array of travelers looking for a different perspective on Florida. This is definitely not an adrenaline-inspired adventure like that of the neighboring cities, but a welcomed fresh breath into the true wonder that is the Sunshine State. Throughout the journey into the breath-taking landscape, guests had ample time to take hundreds of photos of exotic birds, small gators (bigger ones have kind of stage fright) and even the chance to see jumping fish and manatees.

However, the cruise itself along the St. Johns and Hontoon Dead River was a perfect getaway itself. Led by the narration of Gary, a retired school teacher, we were both informed and entertained on our roughly two-and-a-half hour tour. There wasn’t a question that he wasn’t able to answer for the guests on board.

Blue Heron River Tours departs daily at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. seven days a week from September to May. Open in the summer Wed. through Sundays at 10 and 1. The boat is a non-smoking, wheel chair friendly vessel with a bathroom on board, drinks and chips for purchase as well as binocular rentals.
