30 years in the music business, wow just saying that sounds like an achievement. How has the road been since the early beginnings to where you are now?
Farmer Nappy- Yes, it is an achievement! The road has been long with lots of bumps, but i am beginning to see the smooth highway in front of me now! Lol
Could you imagine a more rewarding time to release your second studio album You Make Me...Surrender than that of Carnival Day?
Farmer Nappy- It's pretty exciting. Carnival Tuesday is the height of Carnival!
What was the reason behind dubbing the album’s title off the combined Trinidad hits Surrender and You Make Me? Did you have any other possible names?
Farmer Nappy- Originally, I wanted to name the album Surrender because of the success of the track. The name of the album would have been familiar, so I figured it might be a good idea to name it that. My partner wanted to get more creative with underlying messages and i found she was getting too complicated, so I decided to make the final decision by putting my foot down and I named the album You Make Me....Surrender.
On the album you’ve collaborated with a who’s who of Caribbean stars, is that just because you’ve been around so long that you’ve made a number of friends along the way or you just simply wanted to work together?
Farmer Nappy- I guess its a combination of both. Lol!
You’ve been showcasing your music worldwide for quite a long time, but for those unfamiliar to your sound, how would you describe it (not just as a genre)?
Farmer Nappy- I would say my music is happy and playful. It puts you in a good mood and always gives you the feeling to dance.
Outsiders of Caribbean music get a sense that your music is simply reggae, but how many variations would you say you have and is there that many more island sounds you’d like to mix in?
Farmer Nappy- Soca is unique. My sound is a combination of everything caribbean, it's like a big pot bubbling with various herbs and spices. A little pinch of African drums, salsa, zouk, pop, reggae and more.
Considering how upbeat your music is and how it creates a vibe that just makes you want to smile, would you say that it’s just a byproduct of the culture of Trinidad?
Farmer Nappy- I would say not just Trinidad, but the Caribbean on the whole.
For people looking to get their hands on your music, where should they look?
Farmer Nappy- My album will be available worldwide on all digital retailers on February 21, 2012. They can pre-order now on iTunes, Amazon, etc.
When could we expect to hear your next album?
Farmer Nappy- I am seriously thinking of doing another album next year.
Tour plans (any South Florida stops)?
Farmer Nappy- I haven’t gotten my schedule yet, but I am usually always in South Florida around Miami Carnival in October.
Lastly, any other future projects that we should know about (podcasts, remixes, etc.)?
Farmer Nappy- In a few weeks when Carnival is over, I go back to the drawing board to begin looking an recording those hits for the following year. It never stops.
