Jungle Island Announces New Sloth Encounter In Time for International Sloth Day on October 20
What has two toes, likes to hang upside-down, sleeps up to 20 hours per day and is easily a fan favorite? The four new sloths at Jungle Island! South Florida’s favorite landmark attraction is proud to announce the debut of a new sloth encounter in time for International Sloth Day on October 20. Park guests can get up-close-and-personal with these slow-moving, nocturnal mammals should they wish to add-on a Hangin’ with Sloths encounter to their general park admission.
“Sloths are one of the more unique animals on this planet both in terms of biology and their behavior,” said Dr. Jason Chatfield, vice president of zoological operations at Jungle Island. “They are tree dwellers and spend most of their lives upside-down. In fact so much so that it’s actually detrimental to their digestive system if they are right-side up for an extended period of time. The addition of these sloths to our animal family will provide a whole new dimension of excitement and education for visitors to Jungle Island.”
Grayish-brown in color, sloths slightly resemble monkeys. However, they are directly related to the armadillo and anteater family. Known as the world’s slowest mammals, these extraordinary creatures collect algae on their fur as a result of being inactive and spend much of their lives hanging from trees in the rainforests of Central and South America.
Be sure to meet Jungle Island’s newest animal residents during your next park visit. General park admission is $34.95 per adult and $26.95 per child. For a memorable experience with these fascinating animals, guests can add the Hangin’ with Sloths encounter onto their park experience for $30 per person. To learn more, visit www.jungleisland.com.
