‘SINGING IN THE RAIN’ MAKES A BIG SPLASH AT THE WICK THEATER
Opening scene is none other than the famous celebrity visited Hollywood Grumman’s Chinese Theater that immediately draws you into this timeless classic romance musical originally created in the early 50’s. Vibrant and era detailed costumes, hair and makeup done to the part that takes you down memory lane for some and easily entertains all. The excitement of the talent acting, singing and dancing of songs we’ve hummed, whistle and sang along to for decades, creates a fun filled theater full of applause.
The talent is in sync with their roles and didn’t miss a beat. Courter Simmons played the role of Cosmo, an exceptional character actor, dancer and singer that entertains and truly creates the modern day star for this film turned musical whose original talent has made quite a mark in the world. Courter’s role seemed to really make up his personality—a natural entertainer.
Laura Plyer as Lina with a voice that will penetrate and leave a lasting mark in your mind, she will make you laugh and smile when you think of her role. And then Jeremy Benton and Darien Crago whose characters Don and Kathy was a very talented story of love, loyalty and stardom that really grabbed top notch applause as the embrace between the characters become stronger and draw you into the romance in the musical.
The storyline itself from silent films with subtitles to keeping up with the innovative Hollywood and adding sound, dubbing over to enhance-in this case-delightful lip-sync, really got some chuckles.
Each role was played with great skill in their craft and added to this classic transformed into a wonderfully choreographed version with some real splash—rain! All roles cast fit the part and added to this marvelous production. The evening flowed, right down to the smallest two talented performers, Quinn Feerick-Hillenbrand and Blake Rubin that portrayed a Young Don (Jeremy Benton) and Young Cosmo (Courter Simmons).
The singing, dancing and acting are a hit, you’ll be tapping your feet and humming all the way home and continue on til the next day with the ‘Good Morning to You’ song!
